Making a perfect martini is tough and takes practice. However, once you master the art of making a martini you can impress everyone.
To make a proper martini you need gin, which type is up to you although Bombay, Gordon’s, Tanqueray, and Beefeater are the best. You also need vermouth, a shaker, a martini glass, and a garnish.
Step 1: Prepare everything, which needs to be done at least a day ahead of time. You should put the glasses and gin into the freezer, this will allow the gin to thicken up a bit and everyone knows a frosted glass is better than a non frosted glass. However, if for some reason you fail to put the glasses in the freezer then just before making the martini fill the glass with ice and water to chill the glass. Then simply throw the water and ice out of the glass before pouring the martini.
Step 2: Mixing the martini. Add a good sized handful of cube ice to the shaker, add just a small splash of vermouth, and add about 3 oz of gin to the shaker. An alternative method would be to add the vermouth with the ice only and stir it around, then simply pour the vermouth out and then add the gin (real martini lovers don’t really like the taste of vermouth in their martini). Proceed to shake viciously for a quick 30 seconds and pour
Step 3: Add the garnish. You should only use either a lemon skin or olives. If you are using olives just simply throw them in or make it even fancier by skewing the olives with a little plastic sword. If you are using a lemon skin you should twist the lemon skin over the martini to add some flavor, you can add more flavor by wiping the rim of the glass with the lemon peel. Lastly just drop the peel in the martini.
Step 4: Enjoy! Show off your skills of making an awesome martini at your next party.
